Jana Nayagan editor Pradeep E Ragav on film piracy leaks: 'I haven't recovered from this incident yet'

Months after “Jana Nayagan” became the center of one of the biggest piracy cases in Tamil cinema, editor Pradeep E Ragav has spoken of the emotional toll the incident has taken on him. The editor said that despite authorities arresting him, the leaks continue to haunt him. His comments come after the film’s eventual theatrical release was delayed for months due to certification issues and the widespread circulation of pirated copies online.

Pradeep E Ragav says ‘Jana Nayagan’ leaks still haunt him

In an interview with Harish Ram, Pradeep E Ragav recalls the damage caused by the leak and the efforts of hundreds of film-makers. “I haven’t recovered from this yet. There are war ants, they will kill even an animal. That’s how I look at this incident. Those who leaked the information are in jail and there is no law to find and punish those who watched through pirated copies. If it was their own work, they would not do it. It’s not just money, there are thousands of people involved. ” he said. The editor’s comments come after the film was leaked online on April 9, months before it hits theaters. Based on the investigation, the makers of the film have taken legal action against those behind sharing the pirated version. The Tamil Nadu cyber crime branch has arrested several people in connection with the case. The piracy issue triggered legal clippings and disciplinary proceedings. The Madras High Court later issued an interim order directing ISPs and cable TV operators not to distribute uncertified versions of the film. Pradeep E Raghav is also facing disciplinary action from the Film Editors Guild of South India for hiring non-members as assistants, although the guild clarified that he was not directly responsible for the leaks. After submitting an apology, he was allowed to continue his professional work.
