Recalling the difficult transition, she says, “I didn’t know any English at that time. I only knew Marathi, I only knew Hindi, and all these NRI kids around me were Indian kids, and they were all saying, how come she doesn’t understand English? Obviously, the bullying started. I’m innocent. Just because I don’t understand the language. Looking back on those days, she added, “I experienced bullying. I felt like it was all about cutting out the noise and focusing on our goals. It’s going to be hard; it’s going to hurt, but the pain pushes you to grow. Honestly, without this, my English wouldn’t be as good as it is. If they hadn’t bullied me for my English, right? So I choose to look at it that way. I believe that every negative thing in our lives helps make the positive things stronger.”
