Now, other celebrities are weighing in on the matter, including Anurag Basu. In a social media post, he called for the film to be removed from streaming platforms, even comparing the situation to another international film director who faced the same fate.

Basu took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to share his thoughts on Satluj and added to the ongoing debate over the film’s release and removal from the streaming platform.He compared Dosanjh’s films to “Jafar Panahi“, an Iranian director faced a similar fate in his home country. He wrote, “#Satluj, I never thought that one day, Honey Trehan would face the situation that Jafar Panahi faced in Iran. “He compared Hani Trehan’s plight to that of the famous Iranian director Panahi, who was abroad promoting “It Was Just an Accident” when he received a legal notice from the authorities in Tehran. According to the BBC, he was sentenced to one year in prison, a two-year travel ban and a suspended sentence.
“Satluj” removed from OTT, prompting fans to share illegal links
Satluj, released just two days ago, follows the life of activist Jaswant Singh Khalra as he investigates illegal cremations and their corrupt connections in Punjab in the 1990s. The film was originally titled “Punjab 95” and was shot about three to four years ago. However, the film’s release encountered considerable trouble.The film was released on ZEE5 for only two or three days, but recently the platform completely removed the project and issued an official notification regarding the matter. A statement released by them on various social media channels read, “The response to ‘Satluj’ has been overwhelming since its release. We are deeply grateful to every audience member who has chosen to subscribe, watch and support the film. Your love and support means a lot to us and everyone who made this story a reality.”“They further added, “At ZEE5, we stand firmly behind Satluj and the creative vision behind it. We believe in powerful storytelling that inspires, lasts and leaves a lasting impact. We remain committed to championing authentic and meaningful narratives.” However, the team also confirmed that the film will not be available in India until “further notice”.Satluj was also scheduled to premiere at the Toronto Film Festival in 2023, having been submitted to the Central Board of Film Certification a year ago; however, the premiere was ultimately canceled due to concerns raised by Indian authorities at the time.
