Kunal Kohli shared a video on Instagram talking about how deeply the film resonated with him personally. He said, “I just watched Main Vaapas Aaunga and this movie had a huge impact on me. My aunt and dad used to talk about Partition a lot and a lot of it is in this movie. They would talk about its horrors and consequences. Of course, there are relatives who never talk about it, and that’s reflected in the movie. The love story is really so innocent, pure and beautiful. This is Imtiaz’s best work. He expressed love so beautifully and the news of the time – the news came so slowly, things moved so slowly. Today, news and information travel so fast. During that time, they have to go through this huge process of disintegration, figuring out what happened to people, making the decision to never forgive yourself, or rather, people will never forgive you. “Kohli went on to praise the script and the cast, saying, “Imtiaz brought nuance and layers to the film in the script. It gives me nightmares; it hits hard. “In a second scene, Diljit Dosanjh’s character confronts his father, Kohli said. “The other scene is where Diljit keeps asking his father, ‘Tell us what happened to those women.'” “All you get from it is hatred between two religions and two communities,” he said. “I don’t think that has anything to do with it.” There’s also a lot of dialogue that’s thrown in haphazardly but makes a lot of sense. This movie is definitely worth a second and third viewing. I’m going to take my daughter with me – she’s only 15, but I want her to see the movie and understand what’s going on.
