Before the last rites, her body was kept at the Maharaja University campus where thousands of admirers, members of the film fraternity, musicians and political leaders gathered to pay their last respects. In accordance with her wishes, the funeral was held in Mysore, her hometown in her later years.

Janaki‘s granddaughter Apsara has paid a touching tribute to the legendary singer. “This is a huge loss not just for our family but for the entire country and the world,” she said, according to The Indian Express. Remembering Janaki’s unparalleled talent, Apsara added, “Her singing style was the most expressive. Everyone who listened to her music knew that.” She also described her grandmother as very unique, saying: “My grandmother was one of a kind. Anyone who knew her will tell you how special she was. She is an extraordinary talent. ” Her heartfelt words reflected the family’s deep admiration and love for the music legend.

Janaki as one of India’s greatest playback singers, Apsara says she will always remember her first experience as a family member. “I will remember her as just like my grandmother, kind, generous, full of love and laughter,” she shared.
