Born in Sivaganga, Chezhiyan completed his degree in engineering and then followed his passion for photography and cinema. He started his film career as an assistant to legendary cinematographer PC Sreeram. Since first working with Kalloori as an independent cinematographer in 2007, he has become one of the most respected technicians in the Tamil film industry.

R. Chezhiyan went on to do several critically acclaimed films such as “Rettaisuzhi”, “Thenmerku Paruvakaatru”, “Magizhchi”, “Paradesi” and “Joker”.
