A feature-length documentary about legendary British Formula 1 driver James Hunt has gone into production, with several of the biggest names in racing now on board. The film, Hunt: We Need to Talk About James, explores the life of the racing icon who died in 1993 aged 43 and was produced with the support of the Hunt estate.According to Deadline , production company and technical experts Deep Fusion are leading the production. F1 champion Damon Hill and motorsport tycoon Bernie Ecclestone have been confirmed as contributors to the documentary, which explores how the rebellious Hunt became one of the sport’s most enduring and beloved characters. The film is scheduled to be released on the 50th anniversary of Hunt’s dramatic 1976 Formula One championship victory.
Creative team and production details
Benjamin Field directed and produced the documentary, with John Gore serving as executive producer. Ivan Atkinson produces alongside the Hunter Estate, with Jamie Anderson and Richard Wiseman also serving as executive producers, with Wiseman handling archival material. The film’s soundtrack was composed by BAFTA-nominated musician Sam Gale.

Hunt: We Need to Talk About James is a deeply human story that paints a complete picture of a man who was absolutely flawed and utterly driven, but also an unexpectedly personal figure.” The film presents a very human, well-rounded picture. Hunt remains one of the most beloved British sporting icons and this film means a lot to me personally. Growing up listening to his comments made me the F1 fan I am today, so directing this documentary is a real honor and privilege,” he said.
