But when it comes to Kiara Advani, she becomes the butt of the joke. People say, ‘Oh, she just got married, she’s a mother, she’s on her honeymoon, not Sidharth Malhotra.’ Seriously?” he said. He further added, “Yeah, he’s also married and has kids. So why are the women the only ones getting the abuse and the men obviously get the applause? Listen, this is a reality check. They’re actors. Their job is to act, to create characters and make you believe they’re in love, even if they’re not.” Benedict also argued that the criticism had nothing to do with Kiara’s performance. “They’re not criticizing her because of her performance. They’re criticizing her because she’s someone’s wife, someone’s mother. As if marriage somehow means an actress should stop acting. That’s ridiculous. The problem is not her professionalism. The problem is the double standards and hypocrisy of her attackers,” he said.
