The winners of the 72nd National Film Awards will be announced today at 5:30 pm and the results will be announced by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting at the National Media Center in New Delhi. The announcement will also be broadcast live on PIB India’s YouTube channel.These prestigious awards are considered India’s highest official recognition of excellence in cinema. Each year, they honor outstanding achievements in feature films, non-feature films, and film writing. Awards are also given in categories including acting, directing, screenplay, music, cinematography, editing and some technical subjects.

A jury led by Jayaraj completes the evaluation

The selection process was conducted by an 11-member jury led by renowned film producer Jayaraj. The panel reviewed entries submitted from different parts of the country before preparing the final recommendations.After extensive discussions and evaluations, the jury submitted its recommendations to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, which will officially announce the winners today.The National Film Awards continue to celebrate artistic merit, storytelling and technical excellence in India’s diverse film industry. The award recognizes achievement regardless of language or commercial performance, giving equal weight to creative and technical contributions.

Several critically acclaimed films are in the running

The 2024 eligibility period saw a string of successful films from the Indian film industry. Commercial blockbusters such as “Stree 2”, “Pushpa 2: The Rule”, “Manjummel Boys”, “Premalu”, “Hanu Man” etc. had an impressive theatrical release and became one of the most successful films of the year.On the other hand, internationally renowned films such as “Everything We Imagine Is Light” and “Ms. La Pata” have been widely appreciated for their storytelling and have earned global recognition.The final list of winners will reveal which films and filmmakers impressed the jury across numerous award categories.

The performance may attract attention

Several performances during the eligibility period earned strong praise from critics and audiences. Mammootty was praised for her performance in “Bramayugam” while Prithviraj Sukumaran was praised for the survival drama “Aadujeevitham: Life of a Goat”. Kartik Aaryan She is widely appreciated for her lead role in Chandu Champion.Among the actresses, Sai Pallavi’s “Amaran” impressed the audience while Alia Bhatt’s “Jigra” won critical acclaim. The announcement was delayed by nearly two weeks

This year’s announcement comes after a delay of about two weeks. Earlier reports suggested the jury would need more time to complete the evaluation process before finalizing the winners. Scheduling commitments involving some jury members also caused delays.During the postponement, media organizations and industry observers are advised to avoid speculation until the selection process is complete. With deliberations now concluded, the Ministry is ready to officially announce the winners in each category.Only certified films central board of film certification (CBFC) Films released between January 1, 2024 and December 31, 2024 are eligible to compete for this year’s National Film Awards.
