friend star Lisa Kudrow shared a deeply personal experience that she believes may be a legacy of her late mother Nedra Stern’s death in 2020.The actress, best known for playing the eccentric Phoebe Buffay on the hit sitcom Friends, spoke on Mayim Bialik’s Breakdown podcast and recalled a series of unexplained events that made her wonder if her mother had somehow reached her from somewhere else.
Lisa Kudrow says everyone was awake but her when her mother died
Lisa revealed that her mother passed away during the COVID-19 pandemic. Recalling the night she died, she said nearly every family member was awake.“My brother was already up when he got the call. My father was awake, my husband was awake, and the alarm clock at my sister’s house went off, so she and her husband were also awake,” Lisa said, adding that she woke up because her brother was calling. When her family later shared their experience, Lisa joked that it felt as though her mother’s energy “awakened everyone” except her.“I said, ‘That’s not weird. She was flying around and waking everyone up as she passed…but she didn’t wake me up.’ I remember thinking, ‘Am I annoying? I’m constantly left out,'” she said.
A mysterious “Mom” text message appears on her phone
A few days after the funeral, Lisa was preparing a slideshow in her mother’s memory when she noticed something unusual on her phone. She said she was replying to a message at the time and she didn’t type anything when the word “mom” suddenly appeared in the text box.“I didn’t write that. Delete. Delete. Delete,” she recalled.According to Lisa, it happened again, and then a third time.Lisa was still upset that she believed her mother had “visited” other people but not her, and later mentioned the strange phone behavior to her husband. After hearing what happened, her husband and friends gave surprising explanations.“They said, ‘Lisa, your mom is texting you from outside,'” she shared.
Another unexplained sign during lockdown
The unexplained events didn’t stop there.Lisa said she was texting a friend during lockdown when “XOXOXO” suddenly appeared in the message box, even though she didn’t type it. At first, she brushed it off because her mother never ended messages that way. However, one day later, her father showed her an old letter written by her mother, and nearly half of the page was filled with repeated “XOXOXOXO”.
A birthday message she thought might have come from her mother
Lisa also recalled another unusual incident that occurred on her 60th birthday, when she discovered a string of random letters in a text box. Although she acknowledged that the letters could mean almost anything, after rearranging them, she felt like they were birthday wishes. She also noted that she affectionately calls her son Julian “JU” and believes the message may have been a reference to him. This time, she took a screenshot. While Lisa acknowledged there could be many explanations for the events, she said she remains open to the possibility they could mean something more.“While we don’t know what it is, we know it’s something. Whether it’s telepathy or not, they’re communicating in another realm, dimension or something… Why turn it off?” she said.
