The film, shot entirely by Nolan using IMAX cameras, is still in theaters and has grossed nearly $700 million at the global box office.
“Odyssey” pirated version online
On July 25, a now-suspended anonymous account shared a high-quality version of the IMAX movie to its account. According to Variety, a message from the now-suspended X (formerly Twitter) account shared a high-quality link to the film, which quickly went viral. The complete 2 hours and 53 minutes of the video has been shared on the platform. By the time the platform officially removed the video and account, the video had been viewed nearly 2.1 million times.The Odyssey joins a long list of films that have been pirated on X and leaked online over the past few years. Ryan Gosling’s “Barbie” and other films such as “Super Mario Galaxy: The Movie” and “Avatar 3” have been similarly shared on the platform. Each time, these videos and the anonymous accounts that posted them online were deleted and suspended.
Film distributor releases statement on ‘The Odyssey’ online leak
Shortly after the film was released on X, the film’s distribution company and studio issued an official statement. Universal Pictures said in a statement to Deadline, “We became aware of the unauthorized release of the film and immediately initiated a takedown protocol. We take copyright infringement seriously and will pursue all appropriate remedies to protect our content and intellectual property rights.”
Fans react to Odyssey leaked online
While the leak resulted in many people around the world watching Nolan’s film on X, the film was quickly removed from the platform. In India, the film’s net box office gross was Rs 14,286 crore and its total net revenue was Rs 11,965 crore. The film is approaching the $700 million mark at the box office and is expected to reach $1 billion soon.
