According to People magazine, Melanie Shatner was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in 2022 after discovering a lump in her breast. Speaking about his cancer journey, William said in a joint interview, “I went to see an oncologist… and they performed surgery almost immediately for stage 4 melanoma.” Stage IV melanoma is a cancer that has spread from its original site to distant parts of the body, according to the National Cancer Institute. Previously, an aggressive diagnosis meant the median survival time would be less than a year. However, results have changed positively due to scientific improvements in treatments such as immunotherapy and other targeted therapies.
