The first film was released in 2012 and the sequel Kahaani 2: Durghalani Singh was released in 2016. Ten years later, discussions are reportedly underway for a third installment, with the lead character said to have been finalized. According to reports, Sujoy aims to keep the essence of the series intact while giving “Kahaani 3” a new identity.
Yami Gautam Become the title of a whole new story

Yami Gautam will be playing the lead role and the character has a very strong arc. The film is still in pre-production and the team is working on a shooting schedule. Sujoy has a very clear vision for the Kahaani world. He’s working closely with the team to ensure the third film feels fresh but still carries the soul of the series. It’s exciting to work with Yami.
Vidya Balan’s ‘Kahaani’ sets the tone
Kahaani, released in 2012, tells the story of Vidya Bagchi, a pregnant woman who searches for her husband after he goes missing. Helping her along the way is Assistant Sub-Inspector Satyoki Sinha (played by Parambrata Chatterjeeand Inspector General A. Khan (presided over by Nawazuddin Siddiqui. As the investigation unfolds, Sadiqi (known as Rana) reveals the truth: Vidya’s identity and pregnancy were orchestrated. In fact, her husband, who was serving in the military, was killed in a subway gas attack, and she orchestrated the entire plan to avenge him.
‘Kahaani 2’ brings fresh story to Vidya Balan
The sequel takes the story in a whole new direction. Here, Vidya plays Vidya Sinha, also known as Durga, who is determined to save her adopted daughter Minnie. Durga took on countless challenges and overcame numerous obstacles to ensure the health of her children. ‘Kahaani 2’ cast includes Arjun Rampal and Tunisha Sharma.
Another project of Yami Gautam is in the works
Meanwhile, Yami is currently busy shooting for the upcoming supernatural folk-drama Nayyi Navelli, directed by Balaji Mohan. A release date has yet to be determined.
