In an interview with Galatta Plus, K. Venkat Narayana said that the release journey of Jana Nayagan was a “challenging” one. “Making this movie was an easier process. We went through a lot of difficulties, and to this day we don’t know why. But we have put this behind us. Once we have the certificate, our only goal is to involve every stakeholder, from exhibitors to dealers. Globally, there are many famous films releasing but we wanted to have a date that the audience can appreciate and celebrate, especially since this is Vijay’s last film,” he said.Talking about the film’s performance, he added, “The film has done well in terms of the circumstances that the film has gone through, especially the censorship-related delays and piracy issues. Had it been released during the Harvest festival holidays or the post-election summer vacation, the outcome would have been very different. The producer’s comments echo director H. Vinoth’s earlier remarks about the difficulty of releasing the film. Vinoth expressed disappointment that the film received an ‘A’ certificate from the CBFC, arguing that a U/A rating would help it reach a wider audience. “Jana Nayagan” was originally scheduled to release in Pongal, but was delayed by six months due to certification issues and finally released in cinemas on July 23. The producers also suffered a major setback ahead of its release, with the entire film leaked online months in advance. Despite these hurdles, the action film crossed the Rs 200-crore mark globally in just four days and continues to perform strongly at the box office.
