New Delhi: To Mirabai Chen Manipur Chief Minister Khemchand Yumnam and Rishikanta Singh were congratulated by Manipur Chief Minister Khemchand Yumnam after winning medals at the 2026 Commonwealth Games. During a virtual interaction, the Chief Minister praised the two weightlifters for bringing glory to Manipur and the country. Manipur Chief Minister had a virtual interaction with Mirabai Chanu and Rishikanta.Mirabhai won gold in the women’s 48kg category, while Rishkantha bagged silver in the men’s 60kg category in Glasgow. During the video call, the Chief Minister congratulated both the athletes and said, “Congratulations to both of you. Thank you very much. Mirabhai, you got the gold medal, Rishikantha, you got the silver medal! We are so proud of you.”He further said, “You both are the pride of this state. We are very proud and happy that you have brought honor to Manipur and India. We will talk when you return to Manipur.”The Olympic medalist thanked the chief minister and expressed gratitude to the people of Manipur and the entire country for their continued encouragement.“Sir, it is because of your support that we have reached this stage. We have achieved this because of the love, encouragement and appreciation of the people of Manipur and the entire India. For athletes like us, our responsibility is to just achieve our goals. Without your love and support, we would not have been able to achieve this. Sir, we have received tremendous support and encouragement and that is all thanks to you and the people of Manipur and India,” Mirabhai said.Mirabai won the gold medal in the women’s 48kg category. This is her third consecutive Commonwealth Games gold medal after winning in 2018 and 2022.She also set new Commonwealth and Games records and won the title by lifting 105kg in the clean and jerk.Rishikantha also performed well in the men’s 60kg competition, winning the silver medal with a total score of 264kg, including 121kg in the snatch and 143kg in the clean and jerk.He set a new Commonwealth Games snatch record with a personal best of 121 kilograms. Malaysia’s Mohamed Anik Kasdan won the gold medal with an Olympic record 273kg, and Kenya’s Joshua Mboya won the bronze with 260kg.
