New Delhi: India added more medals and strengthened its credentials on Day 6 of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, helped by Gurvir Singh’s historic silver medal, another podium finish in weightlifting and a strong showing in boxing.Gurvir performed well and became the first Indian to win a men’s 10,000m medal at the Commonwealth Games. The Army runner maintained the lead throughout with a time of 27:49.78 and had a strong final lap sprint to finish second behind Australia’s Ky Robinson.Harjinder Kaur impressed in the women’s 69kg weightlifting competition to win the silver medal with a career-best 227kg (101kg in snatch and 126kg in clean and jerk). She also broke the Commonwealth Games snatch record twice and improved on her bronze medal win in Birmingham in 2022.Indian boxers continued to perform well with Mandambam Jadumani Singh (55kg), Preeti Pawar (54kg) and Priya Gangas (60kg) reaching the semi-finals, ensuring at least a bronze medal. Priya bounced back from her first round loss in the quarterfinals to continue her quest for gold. However, Parveen Hooda and Kapil Pokhariya were eliminated in the quarter-finals.
Results elsewhere have been mixed
Vishal TK qualified for the men’s 400m semi-finals while Rajesh Ramesh and high jumper Pooja Singh missed out. Weightlifter Nirupama Devi Seram failed to achieve anything after failing in all clean and jerk attempts. Swimmer Srihari Nataraj narrowly missed the 100m backstroke final, while Sajan Prakash failed to advance in the 50m butterfly. In para swimming, Karthik Budigina and Ali Imam finished sixth and eighth respectively in the S13 50m freestyle final. India also won the men’s doubles bowl match, while Nayanmoni Saikia lost in the women’s singles match.At the end of the sixth day, India was ninth in the medal tally with 12 medals, including two gold, seven silver and three bronze, while Australia continued to top the list with 80 medals.
