India’s Harjinder Kaur on Tuesday continued the country’s impressive run in weightlifting by winning the silver medal in the women’s 69kg category at the 2026 Commonwealth Games. The 28-year-old performed with composure, finishing with a total of 227kg after snatching 101kg and clean and jerking 126kg.Harjinder successfully kicked off the clean and jerk with 120kg, then raised the bar to 123kg in his second attempt. She completed the lift with confidence, setting a new record for the event at the Commonwealth Games. The Indian weightlifter ended her campaign in style by successfully lifting 126 kg in her final attempt, improving on her times to end with a total of 227 kg.
Simoneau wins gold
Canadian athlete Charlotte Simoneau performed strongly on the field and won the Commonwealth Games gold medal with a total score of 240 kilograms. Simoneau lifted 108 kilograms in the snatch and 132 kilograms in the clean and jerk, setting Olympic records for weightlifting and total performance.Australia’s Nia Phoebe Hyman won the bronze medal with a total score of 218 kg (snatch 97 kg + clean and jerk 121 kg), 9 kg behind Hajinder.
Indian weightlifting continues to shine
Weightlifting has once again been one of India’s most successful sports at the CWG 2026, with seven medals so far. Indian weightlifting medal winners are:
