Mumbai: NCP-SP leader Rohit PawarFahad Ahmad and representatives of several student organizations met the Mumbai Police Commissioner on Tuesday afternoon to express concern over an FIR registered for alleged harassment of students during the recent student protests.The delegation sought clarification on the actions taken against the students named in the case. Deputies said police officials assured them that further proceedings against the students would be handled with caution and that no harsh action would be taken.Police discuss notices and students’ reactionsAamir Kazi of the All India Students Federation (AISF), one of the members of the delegation, said the police assured them that they would proceed slowly with notifications and other procedures related to the FIR.Qazi said, “While the decision to quash or quash an FIR can only be taken by the home ministry, the police have assured us that they will process the notices and other proceedings slowly. The commissioner also told us that students can reply to the summons notice through WhatsApp and visit the police station at their convenience.”The delegation expressed concern over the impact of the FIR on the students involved in the protests and asked the authorities to consider their case while taking further action.Police explain process behind FIR registrationAccording to Qazi, police officials told the delegation that they were initially unsure of the leaders of the protests, which led to multiple FIRs being registered.Police representatives assured the student body that students would not face harsh action in the ongoing proceedings.
