The story combines psychological drama with criminal investigation. actor Sherbin BensonHe, who plays a major role in the film, spoke fondly of sharing screen space with Bhavana in the Malayalam suspense thriller and said their real-life bond naturally translated into their on-screen relationship. The actor described Bawana as someone he considered family and said there was a lot of comfort between them during the shoot.Recalling her experience with Bhavana, Shebin said in an exclusive interview with ETimes, “She is like a real sister to me. There is no barrier between us. She is like a sister to me. I acted opposite her character and I think the makers probably thought that the brother-sister vibe would naturally reflect on the screen. “
Recalling his first meeting with Bhavana and Rahman
Shapin also recalled the first time he met Bhavana and revealed that it was a long-term dream to work with her and veteran actor Rahman. Like Rahman, who hails from Nilampur, he said he had always wanted to share screen space with the veteran actor.He told us, “I always enjoy acting with people who I connect with. I am from Nilambur and Rahman sir is from the same place. I grew up watching Bhavana and Rahman sir. They are great actors and I always wanted to work with them.”The actor also recalled sending a message to Rahman a few years ago. He shared, “I once texted Rahman sir and said, ‘Rahman ikka, I am from Nilambur. I would love to play a small role with you.'”Talking about meeting Bhavana for the first time, Shebin added, “I first met Bhavana on the sets of ‘Polytechnic’. I went there to see off my brother, who was playing the younger version of Kunchacko Boban’s character. That was the first time I met her. Later, we worked together in ‘Ntikakkakkoru Premondarnn’. We share a great bond and she is really like a sister to me.”
Why “Anomie” caught his attention immediately
Sherbin said the film’s unique narrative was the biggest reason he agreed to join “Anomie.” According to the actor, the concept was refreshing compared to traditional thrillers and appealed to him as a performer.He said, “The thought process behind this film is really unique. The reasoning in the story feels fresh and very different from other thrillers. That’s what attracted me. Even as an actor, I’m excited to watch this film on screen.”He also talked about his love for emotionally driven family dramas. “To be honest, I haven’t encountered a character like this before,” Schebin said. “I like to make family movies with a strong emotional connection. There are fewer and fewer of them now because they are becoming more interesting.”
Shebin Benson says family audience is most important
The actor acknowledged that it’s increasingly difficult to attract family audiences to theaters, as many now prefer to watch movies on streaming platforms or on TV.“Family audiences are one of the hardest audiences to get into theaters,” he explained. Many of them prefer to watch movies on OTT platforms or TV. Often, a movie will appeal to younger audiences first and then to family audiences. That’s why it’s hard to get immediate feedback from them. “Talking about the response to ‘Anomia’, Shebin added, “After the release of ‘Anomia’, I received a lot of positive comments from the family audience as well. Now that the film is on OTT, I continue to receive encouraging feedback.”
Kudos to Rahman and what’s next for Shebin Benson
Shapin reserved special praise for veteran actor Rahman, even though the two did not share a scene in “Anomie.” He described Rahman as one of the finest actors in Malayalam cinema and felt that there was more to explore in the actor’s talent.He said: “He is a very good actor. Although we did not film together in Anomie, everyone knows that he is a veteran actor. I still feel that his full potential has not been fully realized.”Shebin made his acting debut in Aashiq Abu’s Idukki Gold (2013), in which he played the younger version of Maniyanpilla Raju’s character. Since then, he has acted in more than 30 Malayalam films.After Anomie, the actor has two more projects lined up. He will next be seen in ‘Disco’ and ‘Anchaam Pramaanam’.
