The actor has been outspoken over the years about his love for his hometown and how, to him, there’s no other place like New York. His love for New York knew no bounds, as most of his properties were scattered throughout the area. From Greenwich Village to his Montauk beach house, here’s a look at the beloved Hollywood star’s extensive New York portfolio.

Robert de NeroMain Townhouses in West Village

It was once the actor’s primary residence, where he lived for more than 37 years. The New York Post earlier reported that the actor has owned the stunning home since 1975 for $190,000. The Italian-style house spans 5,000 square feet and has three bedrooms. Not only that, but one of the most special qualities of this property is that it has 12-foot ceilings for optimal spacing. The house was built in 1852 and De Niro sold it in 2012 for $9.5 million.

Ulster County Manor

In 1997, the “Heat” actor spent $1.5 million to purchase this beautiful estate in the small town of Gardner, New York. At the time, he had just married socialite Grace Hightower. The house sits on 78 acres and has 2,222 square feet of land. The actor renovated the space to his liking, which includes six bedrooms, seven bathrooms and a barn that was later converted into a 14,000-square-foot entertainment center. The center offers a variety of private facilities for De Niro and his family, including a gym, boxing room, games room, swimming pool, sauna, basketball court and film studio.

Robert De Niro inherits stunning Montauk beach house from father

This stunning estate in Montauk is an inheritance he inherited from his late father, painter Robert De Niro Sr. After his death in 1993, the 1.5 acres and 2,278-square-foot home were left to the “The Internship” actor. While little is known about the beach house, reports suggest the villa’s outdoor terrace measures 740 square feet. In 2017, he applied to have the property demolished so he could rebuild a larger home. However, his request was rejected at the time.

Upper West Side fifth-floor apartment burned down

He and Hightower jointly own the property and purchased it together in 2006 for $20.9 million. Details about the fifth-floor luxury apartment have not been made public. However, in 2012, while the couple was abroad, CBS News reported that the luxury apartment and much of the building it was in burned down due to a fire caused by a dryer. After returning home, the couple had to look for different accommodation until the apartment was renovated. In 2018, Hightower and De Niro officially parted ways, and in 2025, the socialite sold the apartment for $18 million.

De Niro is a true New Yorker who has invested in businesses across the state. It also includes the Greenwich Hotel, which the famous actor co-owns with Ira Drukier. As a result of his ownership, De Niro owns a penthouse at the top of the hotel building. Inspired by the Japanese concept of wabi-sabi, the actor hired Belgian designer Axel Vervoordt and Japanese architect Tatsuro Miki in 2014 to renovate and build the penthouse to embody the feeling of finding beauty in imperfection.In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the actor said Tribeca has its own vibe and feel. Axel wanted to respect this and incorporate elements of the city. It’s not just interior design: it’s art. “The industrial treatment on top is in perfect harmony with the architecture below,” Vervoordt added in an interview with Architectural Digest. “The 6,800-square-foot unit was decorated and transformed from top to bottom using wood, stone, and other similar elements.” Neutral tones and colors were used throughout the house to ensure it complemented the theme and overall vibe. While De Niro owns part of the property, tenants are also free to reserve units with three bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms.

35th floor space in Upper West Side

In 2012, the veteran star also rented a luxury apartment on the 35th floor. He reportedly pays $125,000 a month in rent for the 6,000-square-foot property. The space, located on Central Park West, includes five bedrooms and six bathrooms. The property was listed for sale for $55 million, Architectural Digest reported in 2014.

Greenwich Village Duplex Apartment

It became Hightower and De Niro’s home after a devastating fire destroyed their luxury home. The property was originally built in 1920 as a manufacturing plant. They rented out the space for a while until their apartment was rebuilt. The property overlooks a stunning courtyard area with an entire wall dedicated to large windows looking out onto the landscape. The two-story foyer is a unique design feature for rental properties. The space also includes personal spaces including three wood-burning fireplaces, a library and a master suite. The 11,000-square-foot building has five bedrooms and four and a half bathrooms. The couple lived in a rented house for two years.

Robert De Niro’s London estate

The actor owned a property in London in 2001 for $1 million. The top-floor loft, once a jam factory, has two bedrooms and 2,100 square feet. Little is known about this London home. However, it did go on sale in 2018 for $2.16 million.
