Aamir Khan Govinda has long been known as a “perfectionist” in Bollywood, but veteran actor Shagufta Ali believes Govinda deserves more recognition for his dedication to his craft. Looking back at the time they spent together while filming “Hero No. 1” In “1,” Shagufta revealed that Govinda would rehearse scenes over and over again, sometimes as many as 25 times, and keep asking for retakes until he was completely satisfied, no matter how tiring the process was for his co-stars.

In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Sargufta fondly recalled the atmosphere on the sets of “Hero No. 1” and described the shoot as a pleasant experience for the entire cast.“Whether Govinda or Karisma is on the set or not, we all have a great time. We went to a paid picnic. The outdoor shoot in Ooty was great. We stayed at Mithun Da’s hotel. After he found out, he came to pick us up and treated us to seafood he cooked by himself. “
Govinda will rehearse a scene up to 25 times
Shagufta acknowledged that Govinda’s habit of arriving late was well known, but she also stressed that his dedication to perfecting each scene was unparalleled.“Govinda used to be late on the sets too. If the shift changed at 9 am, he would come at 1 or 2 pm, which was never the case before. That was the only problem with Govinda; apart from that, he was a very nice guy. I did 3-4 films with him. He was a very nice guy, fun-loving. He rehearsed 25 times. He rehearsed 25 times.“According to Shagufta, even if director David Dhawan approved a shot, Govinda would ask for another take if he felt he could improve his performance.
Kader Khan upset by delays
The veteran actor also recalled that Govinda’s tardiness often frustrated the cast and crew. She revealed that legendary actor Kader Khan would feel uneasy whenever he reported to the sets hours after his scheduled call time. Shagufta added that while many members of the team were annoyed by the delay, they had no choice but to wait every day for Govinda to start shooting.

Govinda became one of the biggest stars in the Hindi film industry in the 1990s, popular for his comedic timing, effortless dancing and entertaining screen presence. He has cemented his status as a Bollywood earner with his memorable performances in some of the most successful films like “Raja Babu”, “Coolie No. 1”, “Hero No. 1”, “Saajan Chale Sasural”, “Dulhe Raja”, “Bade Miyan Chote Miyan”, “Haseena Maan Jaayegi” and “Partner”.Despite a successful comeback with “Partners” in 2007, he was unable to maintain the momentum in the following years. Govinda was last seen in Rangeela Raja, in which he played a dual role, but the film failed to make an impact at the box office. Since then, he has largely stayed away from the screen.
