New Delhi: Shreyas Iyer’s maiden series win as India T20I captain was built on a fearless brand of cricket, with the skipper believing the young team’s ability to stay positive and seize every opportunity was the biggest takeaway from their dominant performance against Zimbabwe.India took a 2-0 lead in the three-match series with a commanding 90-run victory in the second T20I on Saturday, but for Iyer, the result was more than just another victory, it reflected the team’s progressive mentality and confidence in its young players.Batting first, India recovered from early inconsistency to post a mammoth score of 219/5, driven by Ishan Kishan’s brilliant 81 and Tilak Varma’s unbeaten 60. Their bowlers then backed up the total by bowling Zimbabwe for 129 in 17.5 overs.

Reflecting on the performance, Iyer highlighted how the team’s fearless approach allowed players to express themselves without having to worry about past setbacks.“It’s how you approach the game. I feel it’s all about attitude. Don’t focus too much on previous performances. Keep moving forward and more importantly, stay in the moment. You have to maximize every opportunity you get,” Iyer said after the match.
Iyer praises Kishan, Tilak for fearless batting performance
India were in trouble at 29/2 after losing Abhishek Sharma and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, but Kishan and Tilak turned the tables with a brilliant partnership.Kishan first shared 66 runs with Iyer and then joined forces with Tilak for 94 runs to give India a boost of over 200 runs.Iyer admitted that the team’s expectations changed mid-innings as the two left-handers launched a stunning comeback.“Starting with the batting, I thought Ishan and Tilak played very well. Some of their batting was beautiful and very pleasing to the eye,” he said. “At first, I thought any score between 180 and 200 was a par score, but we ended up with 220, which was the icing on the cake.”The Indian captain also praised the bowling team for maintaining discipline and executing the plan flawlessly.“As usual, the golfers came in and executed their lines and lengths with precision and tied them together to hit 130-plus balls. I think that basically tells you the story of the game,” he added.
Injury concerns ahead of T20I final
India’s preparations for the final were hampered by fast bowler Prince Yadav sustaining a hamstring injury in the second over.Prince stopped as he ran in and left the field after taking two wickets. Iyer confirmed that the injury could lead to changes in the series finale.“Unfortunately, one of our players (Prince) got injured, so there may be some changes,” the captain said.
