India concluded day two of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow with its first medal of the Games, with encouraging performances from athletes in para-weightlifting, swimming, boxing and lawn bowls.The biggest highlight of the day was the Para Weightlifting competition where Jandu Kumar opened India’s medal tally by winning a bronze medal in the men’s heavyweight competition. The Bihar weightlifter overcame polio and financial difficulties to reach the international stage, finishing with 130.9 points after successfully lifting 181 kg and 190 kg. His attempt in the 196kg category failed and he missed the Commonwealth Games record. Fellow Indian Sudhir finished sixth. India came close to winning another medal in the para-weightlifting competition with Ashok Malik narrowly missing out on the podium as he finished fourth in the men’s lightweight category with 143.8 points. Paramjit Kumar finished seventh.In para swimming, Karthik Budigina narrowly missed out on a medal by finishing fourth in the men’s 100m freestyle S13 final with a time of 57.57 seconds. Teammate Imam Ali was seventh after the two Indians advanced from the heats earlier in the day.Indian boxing is also off to a good start. Jadumani Singh defeated Scotland’s Aaron Cullen via unanimous decision to advance to the men’s 55kg pre-quarterfinals. He will next face Pakistan’s Sumama Rehman for a spot in the quarter-finals.In swimming, Srihari Nataraj missed out on a spot in the men’s 50m backstroke final after finishing seventh in the semi-finals.India continues to record impressive results in lawn bowls. The women’s pairs pair of Rupa Rani Tilki and Pinky Singh defeated South Africa for their second consecutive victory. In the men’s singles, Puttur Sonowal defeated the Falkland Islands’ Cecil Alexander in a tense tie-break to defeat world champion Ryan Best on the first day of play.India ended the day with a bronze medal and was tied for ninth in the overall standings.
