Veteran Malayalam actor Mammootty has expressed support for the ongoing student protests at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. The actor shared a message on social media urging authorities to pay attention to concerns raised by young people.
Mammootty shares messages of support for students
Mammootty took to Facebook to open up about the importance of the younger generation and appealed to people to listen to their voices. He stressed that the future of the country depends on empowering the youth.“Young people are our nation’s true treasure. Listen to them. Protect them. Empower them,” he wrote.
Dulquer Salmaan and other Malayalam actors join movement
Mammootty is not the only Malayalam actor to speak out about this issue. Previously, his son Durgai Salman also expressed support for the students participating in the protests.Several other prominent actors from the Malayalam film industry also expressed solidarity with the movement. The list includes Kunchacko Boban, Tovino Thomas, Indrajith Sukumaran, Kalidas Jayaram, Joju George, Parvathy Thiruvothu, Rima Kallingal and others.
Kamal Hassan calls for education reforms
Actor-politician Kamal Haasan also issued a detailed statement on the ongoing protests. He criticized the current education system and said students’ concerns should have been addressed earlier.Kamal wrote: “When a child cries, we should listen. Instead, we wait until too many children die. A system that replaces tutoring with learning, anxiety with curiosity, crime with merit is rotten. When children encounter roadblocks and batons instead of answers, a nation has failed.”
Kamal Hassan appeals to Sonam Wangchuck
In addition to expressing solidarity with the students, Kamal Hasan also addressed social activist Sonam Wangchuk, who has been fasting. He called on Wangchuk to end his hunger strike and said the country would still need his guidance in the future.He added, “@Wangchuk66, the country needs your conscience in its journey ahead. Please end your fast. To the children of India: You are the best among us. You have done your duty. Now it is time for the country to fulfill your duty.
