The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has unveiled its 2027 home schedule, which headlines the men’s five-Test Ashes series against Australia and the women’s multi-format Ashes series, with both competitions set to be played simultaneously during one of the busiest summers in recent memory.After losing 4-1 in Australia last winter, England will begin their men’s Ashes campaign at Trent Bridge on June 18, while the women’s Ashes campaign will begin six days later with a one-off Test at Headingley on June 24.One of the biggest talking points on the schedule is Southampton’s Utilita Bowl, which will host the men’s Ashes Test match for the first time, becoming the 10th venue in the UK to host one of cricket’s most famous matches.
Rose Bowl for historic first time, no northern testing site
The men’s Ashes matches will move from Trent Bridge to Lord’s (June 30), Edgbaston (July 8), the Rose Bowl (July 21) and finish at The Oval from July 29.However, the schedule has sparked fresh debate after Headingley and Old Trafford were overlooked as Ashes Test venues, meaning England will not play an Ashes Test in the north of England.Old Trafford was originally earmarked to host a Test match in 2023 when the venue allocation was announced, but was later changed to host a one-day international against Pakistan. The omission had previously drawn criticism from Greater Manchester mayor and current Prime Minister Andy Burnham.England will prepare for the Ashes with a one-off Test against Bangladesh at Lord’s from May 28, while Australia will play a four-day warm-up match against the England Lions at Old Trafford from June 7 under a new reciprocal agreement aimed at giving touring teams a stronger preparation.
Women’s urn and international calendar
The Women’s Ashes will once again use a mixed points system, with four points awarded for Test matches and two points for each white-ball match.After the Headingley Test, England and Australia will play three T20Is at Trent Bridge, The Oval and Old Trafford before three ODIs at Southampton, Lord’s and Edgbaston.The series comes just months after Australia extended their dominance in the competition by defeating England in the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup final. Meanwhile, England are aiming to secure a first Women’s Ashes Test victory since 2014 after losing 16-0 in the 2025 series in Australia.Apart from the Ashes, England’s men’s summer season will include a five-match ODI series against Pakistan before the Bangladesh Test. As England prepares for the 2027 ODI World Cup, the home season will end with 3 T20Is and 5 ODIs against New Zealand in September.England Women will conclude their home campaign with a T20I and ODI series against Bangladesh at home.The ECB also confirmed that the Oval will host the 2027 World Test Championship final from June 9 to 13, which will be the second time the London venue has hosted a championship decider.
