The 2027 ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final will be held at The Oval, with the title match scheduled from June 9 to 13. The venue will host the prestigious competition for the second time after hosting the 2023 final.The decision was taken at the ICC Annual Meeting in 2025, where the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) secured the right to host the next three WTC finals (2027, 2029 and 2031). England is now home to the title decider, having hosted every WTC final since the tournament’s launch.The inaugural WTC final was held in Southampton in 2021, with New Zealand defeating India to become the inaugural champions. In 2023, Australia lifted the trophy after defeating India at The Oval, while South Africa won the WTC title for the first time in 2025 with a five-wicket win over Australia at Lord’s.
The 2027 final coincides with the 150th anniversary of Test cricket
The 2027 WTC Final will conclude the fourth round of the tournament and takes on extra significance as it coincides with the 150th anniversary of Test cricket, making it one of the iconic events in the history of the longest format.Welcoming the confirmation, ECB managing director of competitions and major events Neil Snowball said England was proud to continue to host the pinnacle of Test cricket and provide a fitting stage for two of the world’s top Test teams. Australia currently tops the World Test Championship standings with 87.50 percentage points, while defending champions South Africa are second with 75.00 percentage points. New Zealand ranks third, followed by Bangladesh and India in fourth and fifth respectively. Sri Lanka is ranked sixth, with England, West Indies and Pakistan ranked seventh, eighth and ninth respectively.
