Ed Harris spoke candidly about his experience on “Dutton Ranch” at Monday’s red carpet premiere, Variety reports. The actor was particularly candid about his dissatisfaction with his role, telling producers, “I felt like I was underused and irrelevant.” Harris recalled telling his team, “Get me out of here,” expressing his deep frustration with the series. Harris was promoting his sports comedy film “Dink Man,” in which he plays veterinarian Dr. Everett McKinney opposite “Yellowstone” alums Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser, which premiered on the streaming platform in May.

The actor said he didn’t “feel like he was being taken advantage of” on the show and “felt a little bit misled” about the scope of his involvement. Before filming the first season, Harris discussed the show and his character’s role with the creative team, who told him he would be taking on the lead role. “That’s not the case,” he said, recalling his disappointment at the discrepancy between reality and what was promised during pre-production discussions.

However, the production team later assured Harris that he would use more substantial material in the second season. The show was renewed in June and filming for the second season began in February. Harris described his experience with “Dutton Ranch” as “a little frustrating” overall, noting that his character’s on-screen importance didn’t match what he felt was being promised behind the scenes during development. He expressed hope that the promise of a second season will be fulfilled, giving the veteran actor a more satisfying role.
