Vice-captain of Team India T20I Tilak Varma Reflected on the disappointing challenges that led to India’s back-to-back T20I series losses to Ireland and England, insisting the team remains focused on learning from the setbacks and regaining momentum.The reigning T20 World Cup champions endured a forgettable tour of the British Isles in July 2026, registering just one win in the entire 10-match series while losing consecutive bilateral series to Ireland and England. The Indian team also failed to register a win in the T20I stage of the tour.
‘The situation in England is a huge challenge’
Ahead of India’s upcoming T20I series against Zimbabwe, Tilak admitted that adapting to conditions overseas after playing mainly in Asia for the past two years has proven to be a major challenge. He also supports the captain Shreyas Iyeremphasizing the importance of staying calm under pressure and maintaining a positive atmosphere within the team.“Honestly, Shreyas Iyer is leading a championship-winning team, so obviously there is always a responsibility on us. At the same time, Ireland and England offer completely different conditions. We have spent most of the last two years playing in Asia and then suddenly we have to compete in overseas conditions against a very strong England team, who we have already seen in the World Cup semi-finals. It is always difficult to play against such a good team in challenging conditions and of course there are expectations,” Tilak said in a video shared.
“Results will come and go and we need to stay positive”
The left-handed batsman stressed that the team has learned valuable lessons from the tour and is determined to bounce back by creating the right atmosphere in the dressing room.“In situations like this, you have to stay calm under pressure and create positive energy within the team. That’s our mentality. Results will come and go, but the important thing is how we create a good environment and support everyone. It’s just a matter of one game or one series. The last series was a good learning experience and now we want to execute those learnings and regain momentum,” he added.
