Music composer Tanishk Bagchi has opened up about what he calls the royalties payment for the title song of ‘Saiyaara’, which is disappointing. The composer shared his experience on social media and said the financial rewards did not reflect the effort he put into creating one of the film’s most successful musical compositions.
The composer said the song required his full devotion
Looking back on the making of the title track, Tanishk said he put his heart and soul into every stage of the creative process. He explained that he was deeply involved in the production, composition, recording and overall sound of the song.He wrote: “I gave everything to this song. From production to composing, cooperating with lyrics and singers, recording, tuning, sound, and arrangement, every detail is important to me. I treat it like it’s my own. Whatever YRF paid me, all the nominal amount was for live and mixing…the rest was zero, yeah. That’s how much money I make from a song this big. “According to the composer, the project required a lot of time and personal investment. He said the financial results did not match the standard of work that put it on track to top the list. Tanishq also claimed that the royalty statement he obtained showed that the song earned Rs 8 lakh. He said he found the number disappointing given the title song’s popularity on streaming services and digital platforms.He added, “What breaks my heart the most is that as per the royalty statement, I have still received only Rs 8 lakh in royalties for a song that has millions of plays and views across platforms. Honestly, for the amount of work, time and passion I put into the song, Rs 8 lakh feels like peanuts. I sincerely believe that a song of this magnitude would make a lot more. I’m not writing this to gain sympathy. I write this because I know what I put into this song, and I know the sacrifices I made to bring it to life. This experience changed my perspective on the industry. From now on, I will only work with producers and directors who value creativity, honesty, and the people who create their music. “
YRF says royalties will be split equally between the three composers
Soon after Tanishk’s remarks, Yash Raj Films released an official statement giving its side of the matter. The studio clarifies that the title track Saiyaara was produced by Tanishk BadjiFahim Abdullah and Arslan Nizami. According to YRF, the three composers had reached an agreement on a royalty-sharing arrangement before the song was released.The production company also maintains that every payment was made according to the terms of the contract. The statement read, “The title track of ‘Saiyaara’ is a perfect collaboration between three composers (Tanishk Bagchi, Faheem Abdullah and Arslan Nizami). We are deeply grateful for their talent in creating a timeless song that has touched the hearts of millions. YRF has shared the title track with all three composers as per the contractual arrangements of everyone including Tanishk. YRF has paid each collaborator its due fees in accordance with the contract and within the terms and time agreed upon by both parties. “While the composer questioned whether the royalties he received reflected the song’s commercial success, YRF reiterated that each collaborator was compensated under the signed agreement and that royalties will continue to be split equally between the three composers.Meanwhile, just two days ago, the Saiyaara team celebrated its first anniversary.
