New Delhi: Spain striker Borja Iglesias made light-hearted comments ahead of the 2026 World Cup final, saying he hopes he doesn’t have to spend too much time shaking hands with the US President Donald Trump during the trophy presentation following Sunday’s championship game against Argentina at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.With Trump expected to attend the World Cup final, Spanish magazine Panenca asked Iglesias how he would react if he had to greet the US president after the game.

Iglesias responded humorously that he would shake Trump’s hand but hoped the moment would end soon.Italian news website Il Messaggero quoted Iglesias as saying: “I will shake hands with Trump, but I want it as soon as possible… I don’t want to go to jail.”The Celta Vigo forward says he just wants to enjoy the moment if Spain lifts the trophy.“I wanted to greet him when we were both really happy and it was all over quickly so I could forget about it.”Iglesias also said he didn’t want the moment to become political.“I don’t want to go to jail for saying no.
