New Delhi: Pakistan’s star all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz He was banned for three months after failing a doping test during the T20 World Cup earlier this year. The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the decision on Friday, saying the positive test results were related to “substance abuse” and not to enhancing sporting performance.However, if Nawaz successfully completes a substance abuse treatment program, his suspension will be reduced to one month. His suspension is backdated to May 1, the date he began his voluntary interim suspension.

“Pakistan spin bowling all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz has accepted a three-month ban (to be reduced to one month upon completion of a substance abuse treatment program) for violating ICC anti-doping rules,” the ICC said in a statement.“Nawaz will not be required to serve the remaining three months of his ban if he completes a substance abuse rehabilitation program to the satisfaction of the ICC,” the governing body added.
Tested positive for marijuana metabolites
The 32-year-old man tested positive for Carboxy-THC, an inactive metabolite produced in the liver after consuming cannabis. On February 7, he underwent a doping test after Pakistan’s T20 World Cup match against the Netherlands in Colombo.The tournament is co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, with Pakistan playing in Sri Lanka under an agreement with the ICC.
Nawaz admits guilt
The ICC said Nawaz accepted the charges and proved that the substance was taken outside competition and had nothing to do with enhancing his performance.“Nawaz admitted the crime and proved that the substance was used outside competition and in a manner unrelated to sporting performance,” the world body said.After accepting the punishment and agreeing to undergo rehabilitation, Nawaz’s interim suspension has been lifted and he has now served two and a half months.
Match record disqualified
Nawaz’s record in Pakistan’s T20 World Cup match against Netherlands on February 7 and all subsequent matches up to May 1 has been disqualified under ICC anti-doping regulations.
