In a conversation with Mashable India, Amal recalled that the original song, sung by his brother Armaan Malik, had already become a hit when it appeared alongside the trailer of the film. But as the film’s release neared, Salman, who had co-produced “Hero” with Subhash Ghai, chose to record his own version of the song. Amar shared, “Arman’s voice was in the trailer and the song became an instant hit. But when the film released, there was a lot of negativity around. Salman sir said, ‘I should do something to remove the negativity and put the focus on me instead of Sooraj and Athiya.'” He has always been like that. He took the bullet himself. He said, “I’ll sing this song.” This should be the ending theme because I’m introducing them and I’m the hero too. I am a hero, so I can sing this song. Then he said, ‘Let’s dub my version and see how it turns out. ‘”

Amal said recording Salman’s version was a long process spanning multiple locations. He revealed, “The first time was at Himesh Reshammiya’s studio and we dubbed for three hours. The second time was at Yash Raj Studios, the third time at his farmhouse and the fourth time at the film location. In total, we dubbed the song at eight different locations.” He always sticks to the same microphone, adding: “When you sing into different microphones, your voice changes. We’re lucky because we use the same microphone every time. “
