“We kept our relationship secret for a long time, about eight to nine months,” Blanco told Spanish newspaper El Pais. He then revealed a key conversation they had before their public announcement. “She asked me, ‘Are you sure you want to do this? If you want us to be just friends, I understand.’ And I said, ‘You know what? Whatever. We’re lucky because we all have friends and family that we knew before all of this happened, and we’re surrounded by a bunch of good people that we love,” he recalled.

Blanco explained that Gomez’s questions about going public were partly due to considerations related to her established celebrity status. Gomez rose to fame as a teenager on the Disney Channel series and has built an extensive career in television, film and music. Blanco’s upcoming album “Hermoso,” which translates to “beautiful” in English, represents a departure from the Spanish-language musical genre. The project incorporates a variety of styles, including cumbia, a music genre that originated on the Caribbean coast of Colombia. Gomez is rumored to appear on the album, continuing her own history of releasing music in Spanish that celebrates her Mexican roots.Blanco described the cultural impact behind the album project. “I grew up in an area with a large Latinx population, so music has always been around me since I was a kid. You’d get in the car and Janet would play; in another car, cumbia would play… I was always attracted to the sound of the drums and how the rhythms interacted with each other,” he explains. He expressed his admiration for Latin music culture more broadly. “It’s a culture that’s always full of new ideas and people who dare to go against the grain,” Blanco added.
Upcoming projects beyond the album
The album is scheduled to be released on August 14, marking the beginning of an active and expanding period in Blanco’s career. About a month after the album’s release, his biography and self-help book “F–k Failure” will be released on September 15.
