Anjali Anand She is no stranger to internet trolls, but ahead of the release of Dhamaal 4, she addressed the issue head-on. In a recent interview, the actor got candid about the body shaming she faces, the current state of female-centric characters in Bollywood, and why she refuses to let the noise get to her.
Anjali Anand digs into ‘Society still sees my weight first, not my job’
In an interview with India Today, the ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’ actress spoke about how the conversation around actresses continues to focus on their weight rather than their acting skills.“Yes, I think this is still happening because society still reflects that. Society still believes and still sees my weight first before my work. So jab tak woh hota rahega, tab tak main yeh kaam karti rahungi (I will continue to do this work as long as this continues to happen) to prove this wrong,” Anja Anli said.Anjali believes the industry needs to do more to create meaningful roles for women who don’t fit the traditional heroine mold.“There’s a long way to go to write better characters for women. That’s what I’m trying to do. The more people see me, the more their minds will open up. They’ll start to believe that they can write something better for this actor, for this character — something that utilizes her skills and not just her body,” the “Bell Bottom” actress said.On signing on for Dhamaal 4 itself, she admitted that it had its own emotional weight given the film’s subject matter, “It was a big riot because if you take on something so vulnerable, something that you’ve been fighting against, it’s a very big responsibility. Things that you know aren’t right. Things that shouldn’t be done in society.”She added: “But then I think this is still going on in society and we’re just showing society what their reality is. If they’re offended by it, that means they’re doing it too. “The actor noted that society’s judgments based on appearance go far beyond weight.“It’s not just fat shaming. People shame other people for being too thin, their skin color, their lack of hair, their appearance, the clothes they wear, the brands they wear – everything. Honestly, the day will probably never happen where this will stop, and what we can do is present these issues from a different perspective and show people what is possible.”Anjali reflects on the portrayal of women in mainstream Hindi cinema and points to a gradual but real shift.“Things are slowly changing. Earlier, characters like Miss Mimi were just eating burgers, or Swathu was reduced to eating a double chocolate frappuccino and waffles. These characters didn’t have any stance. But with Swathu, things started changing. Then there was Gayatri in Loki Orani Ki Prem Kahani, who stood up for herself.”She added: “Women today have agency. They have a community behind them. They are given space and they own that space. It’s a slow process because there are so many people in this country and in the world, but eventually this change will affect everyone.”
Anjali Anand opens up about Dhamaal 4 trailer
Responding to the reaction to the trailer of ‘Dhamaal 4’, Anjali admitted that she felt overwhelmed, albeit in a good way.“I’m overwhelmed by everything. I just hope everyone enjoys the movie and everything goes well. I just wish I could get more beautiful parts out of it. And yeh jo bhi Noise ho rahi hai mere baare mein (Whatever the noise is about me), it becomes good and works very well for me,” she said.
Anjali Anand public trolling
Talking about the online pranks that followed the film’s promotion, Anjali revealed that the team had made preparations in advance.“We knew the prank was going to happen. We were prepared for it, so we didn’t take it too seriously. The more attention you give your trolls, the more they will grow. If you don’t admit it, that’s what life is. Some people get trolled, some can handle it, some can’t. We’re just showing the reality of people who have been through this. “When asked about co-starring Ajay Devgan Or the director himself reached out to support her through the backlash, which Anjali laughed off with characteristic confidence.“Because I don’t look like someone who needs to talk to deal with this, you know. They know this girl can take a hundred hits to the jaw and still stand.”
