Amitabh Bachchan The real estate entrepreneur revealed that he personally called Abhinandan Lodha, founder and chairman of The House of Abhinandan Lodha, at around 3 am to inquire about purchasing land in Ayodhya and transferred Rs 15 crore the next day after learning the price.Speaking at the Hindustan Times India Next Realty Summit 2026, Lodha recalled that he was in Australia in 2023 when he noticed a few missed calls and a message from a Bollywood superstar.“There were a few missed calls and then I got a message that said, ‘This is Amitabh Bachchan, please call back at your convenience.’ “I literally stood up and asked him to come back,” Lodha said.Recalling their conversation, Lodha said Bachchan told him, “Abhinandan ji, main UP se hoon aur mujhe Ayodhya ji mein land leni hai (I am from Uttar Pradesh and I want to buy land in the holy city of Ayodhya).”“I told him, we’re going to do this for you,” he added.Lodha said Bachchan first asked about the price of the land.“I replied, ‘How can I talk to you about pricing?’ He said he wanted to buy 15,000 square feet and I told him it would probably be around Rs 15 crore and the next day he sent me Rs 15 crore,” recalls Lodha.

Amitabh Bachchan expands investments in Ayodhya

Bachchan has steadily expanded his real estate portfolio in Ayodhya over the past few years.In March 2026, he purchased a 2.67-acre land worth Rs 35 crore from Abhinandan Lodha House. According to the company, this is his third investment in Ayodhya and his fourth development purchase planned with HoABL. The site is located near the company’s 75-acre The Sarayu project.Commenting on the investment at the time, Lodha said, “Bachchan’s investment reflects the shared belief that land, as an intergenerational asset, retains its value over the long term.”He said, “At HoABL, we view land not just as wealth but as heritage. In Ayodhya, this legacy is profound and is a verasat where faith and heritage come together. Backed by continued infrastructure development and public investment, Ayodhya is emerging as a compelling destination for long-term land ownership and lasting value creation.”Prior to this, Bachchan purchased a 25,000 sq ft land near The Sarayu in May 2025 for nearly Rs 40 crore. In 2024, he purchased a 10,000 sq ft land at HoABL’s flagship mixed-use development The Sarayu for Rs 14.5 crore.
