New Delhi: World University of Design (WUD) has launched two new academic courses in theater for the academic year 2026-27. The institution offers a four-year Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Theater and Performing Arts and a two-year Master of Arts in Theater and Performing Arts program for students in India seeking formal training in acting and related creative fields.The shows come at a time when the acting profession in India is expanding beyond traditional theatre. According to the university, opportunities now span film, television, OTT platforms, live events, digital media, education and immersive storytelling formats. Enrollment for both programs is currently open.Expansion of performance education in IndiaWUD said the new courses have been developed in response to the changing needs of India’s creative economy. The university noted that while demand for trained performers continues to rise, structured theater education in India that combines classical training with contemporary industry practices remains limited.The agency highlighted that the Indian media and entertainment industry is expected to grow significantly in the coming years, supported by the expansion of digital content, live entertainment and experiential industries. These programs are designed to align academic training with these evolving career paths.

Undergraduate course structureThe BA (Hons) Theater and Performing Arts program will include training in acting, voice, movement, directing, script analysis, stagecraft, theater history and production. The course is designed to provide students with theoretical understanding and practical exposure through seminars, performances and collaborative projects.Students will also be involved in designed theater and production work to gain professional experience during the course. WUD said graduates will complete the course with a performance portfolio to support entry into multiple areas of the creative industries, including theatre, film, television and digital platforms.Postgraduate training and specializationThe Master of Arts in Theater Performance is for graduates who wish to further specialize in areas such as directing, playwriting, theater pedagogy, performance studies and creative leadership. The program will also focus on advanced performance practices, research methods and interdisciplinary collaborations.The university said graduate students will be trained to serve as practitioners, educators and researchers in the field of Indian culture. The course also includes exposure to contemporary performance theory and collaborative creative processes.interdisciplinary learning environmentWUD said drama students will study alongside peers in design, fashion, animation, film, architecture, visual arts and management disciplines. Masterclasses, festivals, productions and industry interactions will be part of the learning process, the university added.According to the agency, the programs are designed to prepare students for careers in India’s expanding creative industries, where performance, design and technology are increasingly interconnected.
