This announcement comes as uncertainty remains over the fate of Hera Pheri 3. The film has been in the news in recent weeks after filmmaker Priyadarshan announced that he would no longer be directing the highly-anticipated comedy. He also made serious allegations against producer Firoz Nadiadwala, claiming that he was repeatedly insulted during their dealings. The director added that he believes Hera Pheri 3 could become one of the biggest film franchises in India if he is at the helm.
Priyadarshan recalls being insulted by Firoz Nadiadwala
In an interview with Mid-Day, Priyadarshan shared the details of one of the episodes and said, “Firoz told Akshay, ‘You have the right to make Hera Pheri 3, but definitely not with Priyadarshan. This is my only demand.'” He has insulted me many times. He told me that my edit of Hera Pheri (2000) looked like a poor man’s version and that he had to edit five hours of my film. I initially agreed to do the third part with Akshay because I thought I could do one of the biggest franchises in the country. If I had directed, I could have made it bigger than Durandal. Akshay, Suniel and Paresh asked me to do Hera Pheri 3. When I told them this story, they were very excited. “
