According to the complaint reviewed by Globo Esporte, the woman, a Brazilian national living in New Zealand, was employed by New Zealand Football as a translator and business liaison for the Cape Verde delegation during the FIFA series. She claims she attended what she believed was a work-related meeting at the team hotel after Cape Verde’s friendly against Chile. Finding out it was a social gathering, she returned to her room. Mendez later entered her room without permission, physically assaulted her and raped her, the complaint states.The woman reportedly gave police a detailed statement along with photos and medical records of her injuries. Globo Esporte also reported that she underwent a forensic examination and received medical and psychological support following the alleged incident.
Police investigation is ongoing
New Zealand Police confirmed the complaint made in April remains under active investigation. Authorities have retrieved CCTV footage from the Auckland hotel and are awaiting the results of forensic examinations as part of their investigation.
